Ani makes being one of the world’s great cellists seem like the easiest thing ever so that you and I can sit transfixed by the stories she tells through her bow and the cello made for her by her own dad! She has a great sense of humor, is humble to a fault, and has a range of color and expression that demanded we explore an entire cello recital with her in our precious space at the Fine Arts Center.
We’ll hear Bach’s 1st Cello Suite, Shostakovich’s intense Cello Sonata, de Falla’s irresistible Popular Spanish Songs, and (impossibly) she’ll play Paganini’s “Moses Variations” on just ONE of her cello’s four strings. Ani’s warmth and gratitude always engulf us all, making us the lucky ones.
