Award-winning traditional electric Chicago blues group The Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling celebrate the release of their third Alligator Records album , Get Your Back Into It!, with a free performance at the 18th Annual Mac Arnold Cornbread and Collard Greens Blues Festival in Fountain Inn on Saturday, April 13, 2024!
The blues is nothing new to Chicago native guitarist and singer Nick Moss, who’s been in the business since his late teens, playing (originally on bass) with the likes of Jimmy Rogers, Buddy Scott, Jimmy Dawkins, and the Legendary Blues Band. Only after LBB singer Willie “Big Eyes” Smith suggested the young Moss switch to guitar, did his own solo career start to truly take off.
In 1998, Moss, alongside wife Kate Moss, a brilliant blues guitarists in her own right, founded Chicago’s Blue Bella Records, releasing his debut solo album First Offense the same year. Now on his 15th album and 3rd Alligator Records release, The Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling deliver a deeply rooted, blue collar blues banger with Get Your Back Into It!
Inspired by the electrifying blues sounds of the 1940s through to the 1960s, and performed with taste, restraint, sly humor and pure joy, the album’s stylistically distinct 14 tracks dare you to stay seated.
Guests include saxophonist “Sax” Gordon Beadle and organist “Brother” John Kattke, who helped the group, according to Moss “…push ourselves out of our comfort zone…and I feel like we accomplished that”.
Moss, along with New Jersey native, harmonica player and vocalist, Dennis Gruenling – together with Rodrigo Mantovani (bass), Taylor Streiff (keys) and Pierce Downer (drums) – have recently received a total of seven 2024 Blues Music Award nominations, including the coveted Band of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year awards.
Moss and Co will be bringing their electrifying live set to the Upstate next month, Saturday, April 13th, at the 18th Annual Mac Arnold Cornbread and Collard Greens Blues Festival! Savor delicious southern comforts with the many different renditions of collard greens, cornbread, and other down-home cuisine, while catching a few legendary artists, all in one place and all for FREE! Don’t let us forget the Jeep Jam and Spring Market that will be running from 12pm-6pm…in other words, GET ON DOWN to Mainstreet Fountain Inn for this afternoon of food and fun!
