More Record Store Day limited pressings will release THIS SATURDAY as Drop3 happens. Déjà vu all over again?

We’ve scaled back these RSD events to avoid crowding at the store but we’ll have lotsa select Drop3 goodies this Saturday Oct. 24. Just keep calm, carry on and wear your mask.

Here’s the thing: RSD Drop2 was lovely and much love and gratitude to all who came by and enjoyed the weekend with us, so we’ve decided that for the third and final DROP THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th, we’re keeping it low-key again.

We’ll have some selections from RSD’s delectable Drop3 list, and yup, we’ll be opening up at 8am, but other than that, we’re gonna have a regular HORIZON RECORDS weekend, with historic levels of new & pre-loved LPs, CD’s and more to choose from.

So come on by, wear your mask, help yourself to some hand sanitizer and check it out. We are all about the fun of collecting music and sharing it with you, all year every year. We are just busy every day being the best Horizon Records we can be, for you and for us too. We are striving to keep things as normal as possible as we roll through these crazy times.

We love Record Store Day, but we love you more.

CHEAP TRICK, Out To Get You! Live 1977 (2xLP)
Dateline: 1977. With punk on the rise in the United Kingdom, rock ‘n’ roll experienced a tectonic shift the world over. Rockford, Illinois’ Cheap Trick rode that shake-up, touring relentlessly in support of their self-titled debut album. In June of that year, bursting with kinetic energy while recording follow-up In Color, the group spontaneously booked a handful of club shows at The Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, knocking out audiences with an onslaught of down-‘n’-dirty rock righteousness – including favorite songs that wouldn’t appear on albums for years. Released for the first time ever and newly mixed by two-time Grammy Award winner Guy Massey (The Beatles, Ray Davies, The Jayhawks), Out To Get You! showcases a band taking determined steps toward world domination.

JJ JOHNSON & KAI WINDING, Stonebone (red vinyl LP)

Not accessible on streaming platforms and long sought after by collectors, an original edition of this LP can sell for upwards of one thousand dollars. In addition to the two leaders, it features an all-star group, including George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Bob James, George Benson, Ron Carter and Grady Tate.

ALICE COOPER, Live from the Apollo Theatre Glasgow Feb 19.1982 (2xLP)
Classic performance from Alice Cooper recorded live at The Apollo theatre Glasgow, Scotland, Feb 19, 1982 on his Special Forces Tour.  This recording is largely unreleased: only three tracks– “Who Do You Think We Are”, “Under My Wheels” and “Model Citizen” were previously released as 12″ B-sides in 1982, and have not been available since.

JOHNNY CASH, Classic Cash: Hall Of Fame Series – Early Mixes (1987) (2xLP)
In 1988, two years after signing to Mercury Records, Johnny Cash released Classic Cash: Hall Of Fame Series, which featured new recordings of classic material. Including renowned tracks like “Ring Of Fire”, and “I Walk The Line”, the series captured one of country music’s greats singing songs that made him a legend. For the first time ever on vinyl, exclusively for Record Store Day 2020, UMe/Mercury is proud to present Classic Cash: Hall Of Fame Series – Early Mixes. Cash’s early mix of the 1988 album, mastered from newly discovered tapes in the Mercury vault. Limited Edition Double LP, pressed on 180g vinyl, it is a must-have for fans and collectors.

DEXTER GORDON QUARTET, Live In Châteauvallon – 1978 (LP)
1978 was a banner year for Dexter Gordon. Maxine Gordon (then Gregg) had started to manage his career and proved to be a one-woman tour de force. In signing with Columbia boosted his career. He moved to New York, forming and grooming his own band all at age 52! The wonderful quartet included George Cables on piano, Rufus Reid on bass, and Eddie Gladden on drums. This November 1978 concert at the Châteauvallon Jazz Festival highlights Dexter’s joyous and fiery mood, peppering his solos with outrageous quotes from other songs.

THE ROLLING STONES, Metamorphosis UK (LP)
The first official Rolling Stones’ rarities collection, Metamorphosis, was originally released in June 1975 to try to outwit the bootleggers. The release combines legendary outtakes and rarities as well as the wealth of demos that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards composed for other artists, which were subsequently re-recorded by the Stones themselves. The collection includes an orchestrated version of “Out Of Time,” recently featured in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The Record Store Day 2020 limited edition of the UK version of Metamorphosis will be released on hunter green vinyl and includes a full color exclusive iron-on t-shirt transfer of the album artwork.

MILES DAVIS, Double Image: Rare Miles From the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (2xLP red vinyl)

Half a century on from its release, shockwaves from Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew continue to reverberate throughout the universe. Leading more than a dozen all-stars in the studio (including Wayne Shorter on soprano sax, John McLaughlin on electric guitar and a triple-threat electric piano section featuring Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea and Larry Young), Miles defied all conventional styles, joining the loose ends of jazz, rock and funk into a groundbreaking new sound that would eventually become known quite plainly as fusion. This double album, featuring ten embryonic recordings which paved the way for the final album, is issued for the first time as a standalone release on opaque red vinyl for Record Store Day 2020.

WARREN ZEVON, Warren Zevon’s Greatest Hits (According To Judd Apatow) (LP)

For this curated release, he selected tracks from his favorite albums as well as a bonus track,  “Something Bad Happened to a Clown” by Taylor Goldsmith and Blake Mills from the March 2016 Largo Show.

FRANK ZAPPA, You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore (Sampler) (2xLP red & yellow transparent vinyl)
In 1988, Frank Zappa released the first installment of You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore, a 6 volume series (12 discs total) consisting of hand picked live performances from his legendary Vault. The series was intended for CD, a relatively new medium at the time. Since vinyl & cassette were still considered the main formats, FZ created this sampler to promote the project & provide motivation to embrace the CD series. The material for the sampler was culled from tracks ranging from 1969 to 1984. The original ‘88 vinyl was mastered by Bernie Grundman. This 2020 collector’s edition is again mastered by Bernie from the original 1630 Digital Master & pressed on 180gram individual red & yellow transparent vinyl by Pallas in Germany.
