THE HONEYCUTTERS & TOWN MOUNTAIN make a great alt-country/bluegrass pair at GOTTROCKS this Saturday night!

The Honeycutters have a voice you can’t ignore; a voice of persistence, of struggle and of hope, a voice that leads the new music movement erupting out of Asheville, NC. They released their 4th studio album On The Ropes May 20, 2016 on Organic Records to much critical acclaim. Nashville’s Music City Roots’ Craig Havighurst says principal songwriter and frontwoman, Amanda Anne Platt “has a voice that’s complex, sweet and aching. Even more potently, she writes songs that folks are citing as up there with the best of the field, such as Mary Gauthier and Lucinda Williams.” On The Ropes was produced by Amanda Anne Platt and Tim Surrett and engineered and mastered by Van Atkins at Crossroads Studios in Arden, NC.

ST. PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES bring their soul, grit and rhythm to the PEACE CENTER on DECEMBER 13th! Their new CD/LP, the socially-conscious SEA OF NOISE is in-stock now!

Grit, elemental rhythm, tight as a drumhead playing, and a profound depth of feeling: these are the promises of a great soul band. And St. Paul & The Broken Bones deliver on those promises with Sea Of Noise, the compelling second album by the Birmingham, Alabama-based sextet, who have already created a maelstrom of interest with their roof-raising live shows. Credit producer Paul Butler, fresh off Michael Kiwanuka’s stunning new disc, for molding these tracks with a restraint and balance. verything about the intriguingly titled Sea of Noise — from the classy but never predictable production, to sharp playing, clever lyrics, memorable melodies and especially the dialed down arrangements — is an enormous step forward.

Roots-rocker JOHNNY IRION is headed back to Horizon Records TONIGHT, playing an in-store set with our buddy NIEL BROOKS; showtime is 7 p.m.!

There’s no mistaking Johnny Irion’s unique pedigree — his granduncle is literary giant John Steinbeck and his father-in-law is folksinger Arlo Guthrie — but the South Carolina native gained a following on the strength of his own music, fronting several bands as a teenager before morphing into a country-folk artist as an adult, culminating recently with a long string of dates with Dawes. With the new US Elevator album, Johnny Irion — musical partner and husband of Sarah Lee Guthrie — steps out on his own and delivers his strongest work to date. Influenced by the shimmery sound of the 60’s, he explores the perils of romance on “Dangerous Love.”

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making Black Friday 2016 our biggest yet. We’re humbled, thrilled and grateful.

One more Black Friday has come and gone and we couldn’t be more thrilled about how the 2016 edition went. We greeted an army of music lovers at 9am, they swarmed the place looking for various quantities of LP’s, 10” collectible picture sleeve singles, box sets, and CDs. The Bohemian Café was here all day with us to fortify you with coffee and other independent-retail-shopping nourishment, and in the end, it was the best Black Friday Horizon Records has had, and we love each and every one of you who came in and had some good times in ye olde record store as we kicked off the Holiday Season.

ADIA VICTORIA is playing at Horizon in The Bohemian Cafe on Saturday, Oct. 15th before her FALL FOR GREENVILLE gig that night!

Adia Victoria is establishing a fresh reference point on the musical landscape. From blood-born howls to idiosyncratic phrasing, she is the big red dot saying You Are Here. The Nashville-based artist travels the lands of rock, afro punk, and country, squarely situated in the continent of the Blues. Ask about her artistic goals, and the songwriter/vocalist will say, “I want to shine a light on the unseen, and speak the unspeakable.” Adia Victoria is a truth teller. She admits, “I don’t necessarily paint myself in a flattering light. This isn’t the pop version of pretty or the strategically posed pretty-ugly. Sometimes I’m just ugly. There’s a brat in some of these songs, selfish, nave, vengeful, but there’s also a tender eye that just wants the listener to feel seen and understood.”
