What a great and respectful crowd for American Primitive Guitar master, GLENN JONES tonight. We thank you, and PETE NOLAN & ED YAZIJIAN for opening the show!

Whoever said that Greenville’s music scene ain’t gettin’ it right wasn’t in the cozy confines of Horizon Records tonight, when Glenn Jones sat down in front of a great crowd and conjured magic from his specially tuned guitars and banjo. And as an extra treat, Pete Nolan and Ed Yazijian treated us to some incredible free-form duo madness to get things started. Thank you, we love you, let’s do it again soon.

With his distinctive, rock-tinged tenor vocal and heart-thumping electric bass, John Cowan, along with fellow New Grass Revival band mates Sam Bush, Courtney Johnson, and Curtis Burch, and later Bela Fleck and Pat Flynn, introduced a new generation of music fans to an explosive, experimental and ultimately, eponymous brand of bluegrass.

WALTER SALAS-HUMARA, creator of visionary garage-acoustic Americana and founder of the SILOS, plays an in-store show store-side TONIGHT at 7pm!

With this apocalyptic agrarianism safely encoded in his band’s name, Salas-Humara moved on once that lineup had run its course — taking with him not the country revisionism that by now could have sustained him in an endless holding pattern, but rather the Lower East Side’s fervid avant-gardism, that high-test mixture of aggression and dissonance the neighborhood wears like a jailhouse tattoo. Walter sings witty songs about modern life, rocks a sweet

Greenville’s own MY GIRL, MY WHISKEY & ME will bring some yummy progressive bluegrass bliss to HORIZON RECORDS for a CD-release in-store show TONIGHT at 7pm!

Acoustic music is a beautiful thing. Progressive acoustic music is even beautiful-er, and that’s what the Upstate’s own My Girl, My Whiskey & Me offers up in droves. Expanding from a duo to a five-piece depending on when you see them, the band, led by the nucleus of singer/mandolin player George Beardsworth and singer/guitarist Kelly Colyer, the group can handle the traditional bluegrass thing with skill and ease, but it’s when they start pushing the boundaries of the music that things get REALLY interesting.

JOHN MORELAND brought the soulful acoustic heartbreak of his new album BIG BAD LUV to Horizon Records on his way to THE GREY EAGLE, and we were amazed and grateful.

While Moreland isn’t exactly copping a rosy outlook on these songs, there is more of a positive vibe that’s in keeping with the upbeat music. “Old Wounds” doesn’t avoid talking about the hard times, but it also advises to “find the heaven following the hurt.” On “Salisaw Blue,” a noose hanging down from the sky is balanced out with a neon sign flashing out the album’s title phrase.
