Hey yall. JB here and I’m announcing the reissue of three classic Phish albums and confessing my love of them. I know the band is still very active and enjoys throngs of “phans” but for whatever reason I began losing interest in the “phab phour” around the flip of the new millennium (it’s not them, it’s me). In the 90s though, I couldn’t get enough! I was the proud owner of a collection of cassette bootlegs, all ringing with hiss from generations of dubs. The first show I saw was at the Roxy in Atlanta in 93, saw them in Spartanburg and all over the South through the nineties. And although they are celebrated for their live performance, these early studio records were a chance for the band to really dial in the sounds and concepts that would become set staples thoughout their long career. From elaborate compositional tunes (You Enjoy Myself, Reba) frameworks for improvisation (David Bowie, Tweezer) abstract experimentalism (Foam, Dinner and a Movie) surrealistic lyrics (Contact, Weigh), these three records along with Lawn Boy (1990) really lay the groundwork to the wild world of Phish.
These vinyl reissues are out September 6th
